The video is cute! He looked like so much fun. He really did love his life with you. Are you going to start building up your companion bird flock?

Quick question. Did Darwin take a box of Dulcolax? That stain on the wall looks like it could only be described as epic diarrhea.
He's such a cute boy, but much too messy for me. He looks like the life of the party!

I clean my aviary out once a week too. Cockatiels aren't that messy at all compared to the lories. I'm going to watch the video later today. Get yourself some Japanese quail and you'll find any seed that gets dropped from your feeders will be quickly eaten! I have 5 of the things and I love them so much haha

The video is cute! He looked like so much fun. He really did love his life with you. Are you going to start building up your companion bird flock? I don't really want birds in the house ever again to be honest. I currently have a celestial parrotlet male called Boo that I haven't even mentioned on the forums because I'm so on edge about keeping birds indoors now. I had got him with the idea that I would love another companion parrot but truth is I feel scared to own them. They're so sensitive to just about everything and even though at my old house the gas never effected us they all dropped like flies. I've never seen anything like it and I don't ever want to have to go through that again. I have decided that with Boo I'm going to get him a hen and pair him up in a flight cage over with the other birds in the outdoor bird room (it is built up of breeding cages and aviaries but it's all being stripped out this year) because I think his quality of life could be improved so much by just getting him a companion. Since buying him I have felt nothing but selfish. It may sound silly, but it's how I've felt for a long time I've had him now for 5 months and it's been great so far but I hear him flock calling and it made me realise that I should have got him a buddy from the word go. He does, however, think his swing is his friend and he will rub his head on all of the felty and leathery bits to get his pin feathers. It is extremely cute! I love him and I think that's what is making me want what is best for him As well as Boo I also have Squishee (came with the name 'Yellow Squish' so I had to change that), a 22 year old and disabled hen IRN. Again, I've not even mentioned her. She is in the conservatory though so she has completely separate air space from the house. What is hard is trying to customize her cage. She has a very, very sad background story of how she became disabled and making her comfortable is priority. She can't ever fly too, no matter how much she wants too. I will have to post some photos of her from the day I got her home. She is phobic of toys so she only has one at the moment to let her get used to it. She falls off her perch a lot so has to be in a small cage until we can order some big cushions from ikea that we will put towels over to wash daily so if she does have a fall she can't hurt herself. She was fed nothing but sunflower seeds. She had smelly, off coloured nicotine like feathers and now has a misting every couple of days which she thoroughly enjoys. Her life being with us has improved drastically but I now feel like she also needs a companion as she is VERY phobic of humans. I don't know whether I should invest in a buddy to just sit in the same space as her so she has somebody to look at and chatter too. She's very vocal I find a lot of reward in keeping my birds in aviaries or outdoors. They seem considerably happier in social flocks too. I think that after this I won't ever have a bird indoors again Without sounding depressing, it's in the birds best interests. I'm not too sad about it. I enjoy my birds so much!

He looks like the life of the party! Hahahaha oh gosh! Every poop was like that, to make things worse! He was definitely the life of the party but he also had some issues too, like biting for fun or dramatically trying to attack other birds who had done nothing but sit in their cages. And his no.1 rule was NEVER hold a bird in front of me. He would SCREAM the place down. I had to cover him up a lot of the time if everybody else was out which led to the lories and lorikeets having their own room. They're very bird aggressive!

Thank you for sharing your story with us. I feel like my birds are much happier in aviaries too. You have tame birds in your aviary, right? Maybe when you can bring like 1 or 2 inside and play with them indoors for how long you'd like the put them back in the aviary. That way you can have the good times with them inside and still let them live outdoors. I do that with my birds. You fixed the gas problem, right? I don't know what caused this awful tragedy. Do you think it can happen again in the future?

The gas was fixed the first time and we had no issues but then it happened again and we lost the birds. I now have a new home and I am MUCH happier here than I ever was before moving
None of my birds are tame whatsoever. I handle the babies when they're young and when they stay with me they certainly don't fear me but they're not hands on in the slightest. I would like aviary birds that I can handle, your situation sounds lovely

Oh, I bet you can make tame birds from your future clutches. I don't spend the whole day on my birds. I just give them about 5-10 minutes a day and just give them millet and try to make them happy. They will definitely become tame after. My birds are now super take and won't need me to feed them millet to stay friendly.
