"Bullfighting" with Vlad. He's not playing, this is what he's like when he's got a nestbox to defend. If I didn't have a towel he'd be doing this to my hand. He DOES seem to enjoy fighting the towel though, to the extent that sometimes he breaks out into happy chirps in the middle of the fight (although it doesn't happen in this video). So I let him wrestle with the towel for a while before I throw it over him and take him to another room, and then I can put food in the cage without being shredded.

I never saw that video before. He looks aggressive. Does he give that aggressive cockatiel scream when you towel him?

I'm not really sure what kind of noise he makes when he's in the towel because I'm too busy trying not to get bitten. Every now and then he manages to nail me through the towel. But I think he keeps on squeaking and squawking. I'll usually lay him down in a safe place, still wrapped in the towel, and let him fight his way free. That way he comes out feeling like he won the battle, when he actually lost. Meanwhile I'm messing around with the cage with him safely out of the way. He's sweet as can be when he's away from the cage, and I can pet him and play with him then.
None of the other parent birds care if I put my hand in the cage while they're nesting. Some of them will get upset if I put my hand in the actual nest, but it doesn't bother them when I'm putting food in the cage. Vlad is so zealous that sometimes he defends the cage against his mates, especially Mims. He's OK with the girls as long as they stay in the cage, but it's attack time if they've been out and he sees them coming back in through the door. I have to catch him in the towel just so they can get back in the cage safely. Vlad may not be able to figure out how to mate, but he's the best nest defender in the house.
