as many may know, i just adopted 4 parakeets. 2 are eating millet from me and the other 2 are a little more scared. Bowie is both eating millet and will sometimes some on a perch. he has flow out of the cage twice, but i have been able to get him back on the perch to put him back with a little hesitation. i am not wondering if i should tame them all the way, or when quarantine is done, if i should just let them fly on my trees and eventually they will become more tame. i was also thinking of having all of them be able to get on a perch so their are semi- tame before letting them on the tree. what i am really asking if for people to put down how tame their birds are and if they are getting more tame, and how it is working out. does anyone have birds that they let fly around and they are getting more tame? ~shelly  |

i actually let my birds out completely wild. in letting my lovebirds out completely wild, i actually tamed them easier. so i would let them out once they get used to the place, you might find they may warm up to you more. mango isnt fully tamed, but he is as tame as he will get. he does not step up readily in the room with his cage or other cages. but he will fly to us when he wants to, on his terms. he is not a people bird, he is more bird oriented and i am fine with him not being "hand" tame. he is just comfortable as he is, and that's fine with me. a bird does not have to be tame to have a home in my flock |

Butch is like that only he will get on a perch to go back or come out. Sometimes he tries to get away from it on he tree, but he has no choose when my hand is blocking the way  Some people on TP said that they let their guys our wild and they aren't getting any tamer. I think what I might do is tame them as much as I can, them let them be out. And they won't come out until then. I will do one bird at a time if I have to- which is pretty much what I am doing now with Bowie because the others are still not sure |

lol well i personally had better luck taming the lovebirds fully flighted out of the cage than i did in the cage.
have you read the mutual agreement taming thread in the training/taming section?

yes! bowie is doing good and today Ollie (the newly named grey one) ate millet from me! for some reason the girls dont want to eat from me... |

are their cages close togther? maybe the girls cant see the boys eating well enough so they havent figured it out yet lol

They are side by side then I am training they gels usually freak out when they hear Leon and butch singing  |
