Today I discovered my neighbors have an BF amazon!! (My favorite kind). He was in a small cage outside while they did yard work in the front and I was in my backyard and heard a familiar sound. I guessed cockatoo. I discovered it was coming from the other side of the house and took a little stroll and found him there! I asked if I could get a closer look and he went crazy! Heartwings, strutting, cooing and trills. He really was attached to me. Surprising because my neighbors said he only liked men. I was telling them that I love birds and that I study them. Their body language, psychology and overall behavior. I told them I do trick training (recall, parlor tricks, harness training... only in large birds. Little birds are way too flighty for me, but I didn't say that part) and they said maybe I can work with him! He isn't very tame and only likes my male neighbor, so they said they've never seen him get so excited to see anybody else before in the 35 years they've had him. It was kind of sad because when I left, he was doing a pathetic scream/cry for me. I really hope I get to see him more. Such a sweetheart in the rough.

That's so awesome! My neighbor has an Amazon as well. It's pretty interesting to me how the Amazon liked you when it only likes males. Maybe he sensed your birds? Nevertheless, it's really cool that he likes you.
Edit: I never knew what a bf Amazon was until I searched it up. They look really awesome. The only thing that is stopping me from making them a dream bird is their massive beak! I really love the bigger birds but their big beaks scare me.

He really looked like a sweetheart.
Their beaks really aren't that big. But, nothing bites you harder than an amazon. Tell you the truth, amazons are really the only parrot I have a fear of.

I'm more into the medium sized birds. I would like a crazy cockatoo but they are way to big for me. I like POW's and conures.

That's great that you get to work with him. Giving him some training will engage his mind and give him some good human interaction and enrichment. He will enjoy it. Amazons are always eager to please

I never knew what a bf Amazon was until I searched it up. They look really awesome. The only thing that is stopping me from making them a dream bird is their massive beak! I really love the bigger birds but their big beaks scare me. I don't think they have a massive beak or are all that large but they have a whopping bite and can be extremely unpredictable. There are three species of zon that people tend to steer clear of and those are the blue fronted, yellow naped and double yellow headed (also known as the 'hot three). These three species in particular can be an absolute nightmare once they hit sexual maturity, males being the worse. Every year when Spring comes around they will be downright awful. Unpredictable, extremely loud and very hands off. Nothing worse! This applies to all species of Amazons though, from what I've learnt with my experience. My orange winged Amazon, Clyde, was a very hands off bird but was easily won around. When he hit sexual maturity though he was a nightmare. He would lunge even if I was on the other side at the room, he would fly at my face even though he was scared of me and he would scream blue murder from the moment the sun came up until it went down again. I do love Amazons, but they certainly aren't for most people

They just turn from good to ugly in the blink of an eye.
So, to recap, I'm working with a cock, BF amazon in the springtime. I am SO in for it.
