I got a book and it had mentioned the use of rocks at the floor of aviaries around where the tiels eat and drink to help keep nails trim naturally as tiels in the wild would encounter similar things. so I thought maybe I could do the same thing for my cages... so I got a rock for each cage, just a little one. I washed them and baked them in the oven and let them cool before giving them to the birds. So far, the lovebirds like to sit on them and the tiels are sort of beaking it to figure out what it is.... I thought it was a fun idea. I used smoother rocks, none that would be at risk of being chipped or abrasive. What do you think?

It's a wonderful idea, and Munch looks adorable!
A rougher rock would do more to sand down the nails, but maybe a smooth rock would be a more comfortable birdie seat.

Hmm, there are lots and lots of rocks around here, especially at the beach. I might have to look into picking some up for them!

lol i'd bet you could make one.... get one of those wire ledges, like the ones made from the same material as cages. find a good flat rock around the same size and secure it on by tying it on the ledge so that it doesnt fall off if they stand on it. not as pretty to look at but suits the same purpose

That's a great idea! It would probably work and would be WAY cheaper than buying one. I have a couple of those wire ledges in the big cage already that I could tie a rock to. Thanks!
