He was always overprotective of me. I'm his person. That is mainly because I handfed him as a baby. It's starting to get out of hand. We had a couple of guests yesterday, and if he was out of his cage, he would fly to a person that was sitting on my bed, and attack them! He never did this before. I was worried of this mate behavior yesterday, but it got worse.
He regurgitated on my bed. He was so weak after it. I saw him drink a lot of water after that. It's starting to worry me sick. I already took him to a vet because he almost died on me from this mating behavior. I don't know how I can stop it. I don't want to be his mate anymore. At first I liked it when he was overprotective of me, now he's acting crazy.
What do you think is the best approach to this? I'm going out of town for 9 days in a month. I feel like if Rio will see other people giving him food and not see me in those days, he will not see me as his mate anymore.
I'm going to DNA sex him soon. I need to know what gender role he thinks I am for him.

He's at an age now where hormones are going to be running rampant. Add that to other factors like time of year etc. and the fact you hand raised him yourself and you've got one hot mess of a bird! Try hormonal treatments like less daylight hours, less protein in his diet, moving his cage around, petting him on the head only and such
