I had a big scare yesterday and I almost lost Rio forever. I haven't spoken to anybody about it yet. Mainly because it was very traumatizing for us, but I feel like I want to talk about it with you guys.

I hung up a toy, and I used a long string to hang it up. This toy was in the room for a full day. Anyways, fast forwarding to the next day, I was in the room, and I saw him fly and get strangled in it. I was almost unable to free him. He was fine the second he was freed, but boy was I shaking. Anyways, I leant my lesson. That toy is in the garbage, and there's no strings left in his cage.

Probably one of my worst bird memories when it comes to incidents has got to be this. My grandad had gotten those stupid hanging sticky fly strips and hung them up near my indoor aviaries. I had the hawk on my fist and hadn't noticed them yet. The hawk bated (jumped off and flapped about basically) off the fist and got caught in one. I had to peel it off him but the glue stuck to him so I had to bathe the lot off him. It's not the first time he's gotten in a bad situation
I recently caught one of my red fronted kakarikis stuck in a toy and I've had a few birds get caught in them prior. Terrifying!
