I thought you guys may be interested in joining in with a petition by the World Parrot Trust to save wild African greys. I signed it myself and I've been sharing it around a bit. Obviously a forum of bird lovers is a good place to start In case you weren't aware, the wild African grey populations (both the Congo and the Timneh) have diminished to next to nothing due to deforestation and the demand for companion parrots in the pet trade. The World Parrot Trust are urging CITES to change their status from Appendix 2 to Appendix 1. This would stop the export of wild greys and end the exploitation. The saddest part of all of it is that it is LEGAL for the birds to be trapped and exported If this is changed, thousands of birds can and WILL be saved! Here is the proposal ~ cites.org/sites/default/files/eng/cop/17/prop/060216/E-CoP17-Prop-19.pdfAnd here is the petition ~ www.change.org/p/tell-cites-to-end-trade-in-wild-african-grey-parrots-savegreys?recruiter=1995222&utm_source=share_for_starters&utm_medium=copyLinkI urge you to sign this! As bird lovers, we should be focusing on our wild parrot populations, not just the companion parrots in our homes. To lose the greys in the wild due to human greed would be a true tragedy Thanks guys!
