so a few days ago butch accidentally flew out of the cage when lenny bit him and he landed on a bar of soap. i wiped him with a wet tissue. but the next day he was still dirty so i called a local professional bird lady who clips their wings are a small pet store, and she washed him and clipped his nails and both the fids wings. she did say butch has a tumor- BUT it is nothing to worry about as long as he is eating, pooping and singing! (and he is!) she said it is on top of his ribs cage so it shouldnt be crushing any organs. of course i will watch it but i have had him for 6 months now and it has stayed the same and he is healthy. she said that she had a keet that got a tumor at 2 years old, it got big, then got a little smaller and the keet was fine all its life with the tumor and live to 17 years old! so i do trust her with tell me that he will be fine.

Ciao ilovepets, I'm sorry to read about the lenny's tumor; How does the lady have recognized the tumor? is she sure about it? could you post a picture?

can you post a photo or is it a fatty sort of lump? maybe you should have a vet take a look at it in case she may have something else? if you are sure, just watch for growth. if it grows, definately have a vet take a look.
our cat had breast cancer. she had 5 tumors removed. the biggest was 2 inches in diameter. they started off the size of a pea and grew to a huge mass in her belly in a matter of two weeks. she didnt have long at the point of diagnosis if we didnt go forward with the surgery. tumors can grow very very fast and can make pets sick very fast and unexpectedly.
Destiny, our cat, was perfectly healthy for two months after we found her. then suddenly started acting lethargic and seeking out places to sleep all day. then she grew the tumors and got sicker and the tumors got bigger. it took two weeks for the tumors to grow to a massive size.
keep a close eye if you suspect a tumor and i would definately suggest a vet take a look, if its harmless, its harmless, but other things can cause lumps in birds too. it could even be a slight small wound that got infected and swelled up. Remember birds hide their pain and sickness VERY VERY well
weigh him daily at the same time each day. If he is losing weight, he may be sicker than you may think.
also, if lenny is picking on butch, this is another clue that butch could be hiding an injury or illness. flock members often kick out the sick bird. so i would suggest bringing butch to the vet if you can and put him in a separate cage for now. keep him warm too.

i do see what you mean. i do want to say that it has not grown and it is quite small. Lenny only picks on butch when he wants his seat. and this is not all the time, most of the time they are singing/dancing/ kissing each other! i am definately going to keep an eye on it. this is butch a week or so ago. he has looked the same since i got him: (on left) this is him (in the middle) about 6-7 months ago at the shelter:

i could not catch him if i tried. i can tell you that the small bald spot is his natural skin color and is not irritated in any way (if it was the lady would have told me)
what does a feather cyst look like?

ewww..... not butch does not have that. if he did then i would do something about that. i know i probably shouldnt have but i did make a post about butchs tumor on talk budgies... everyone is telling me to go to the vet and not to trust the thought of the expert bird lady that told me. but you said just to keep an eye on it, as i was going to do... but they just tell me to go the vet vet. i see no danger in his tumor- unless it grows. i know that birds can hide the symptoms but i dont see ANYTHING out of the ordinary....
