Flighted or Clipped? (626 views)

This is a poll to see how many people have birds who are flighted or clipped.

you can post why you keep flighted and why you clip, but please keep in mind we will not have debates about it on here as each bird owner makes their own choices for their own reasons and theres no right or wrong.

Dally is the only bird of mine who is flighted. The lovebirds are a danger to others and eachother when flighted. Munch will seek everyone out and bite their toes so she cant reach them when she is flighted. Mango will go to Munch's cage when flighted so he is clipped for his own safety too. Tsuka has a bad attitude and he will dive bomb and attack when he is flighted so he stays clipped too.

Dally is our only flighted bird as we have no problems from her lol she was clipped as a baby but i let her grow her flights out and shes always flew every where since, only occasionally colliding with something

Kirk's wings grew back last month and he is now an amazing flyer, Luna's wings are almost back and he is able to fly again, we're letting Taz's come in right now and he is beginning to fly (never seen him fly because he came clipped, and I think too short), and Allie's are in too but she doesn't fly too much. Allie only flies when she wants to come to me or get away from me when I'm trying to give her medicine; she also would not sit still when kids were around yesterday because she was scared so I put her up to calm down.

I keep them flighted because I think it's good exercise and none of mine have any behavioral problems (except Taz needs work).

Some of my birds are flighted (Fuzzy, Oreo, Chicken, Snowball) mainly because they come to me and don't run from me when I need to put them to bed. Other birds (Patches, Hershey, Squiggles, Screech) are always clipped because if I don't clip them they don't do want I need them to. Especially Patches, she came from a rough home and had a woman caretaker before us. My hubby can get her to bed fine, I end up chasing her and catching her on the floor is easier then in the air (and I refuse to keep her locked up, she's had it rough enough as it is.)

when the lovebirds were flighted i've had to resort to a net to get them back in their cages. i believe untame birds can enjoy out of cage time just as much as tame ones

nunu is not clipped because im teaching her how to fly since she never flew before, al pacino is actually a pain in the butt but i like him not clipped because when i got him from the pet store he was in a small cage filled with other tiels so never really had the chance to fly, natasha and yuri are clipped because they are extra hyper and its hard for me to catch them and put them back in the cage, the baby is not clipped well you know hes a baby he needs to learn how to fly lol im thinking of not clipping him but you never know things might change when hes older

Some people turn the lights off and use flashlights to pick their birds up to put them away...just an idea

All my birds are not clipped (even if I have had clipped birds in the past);
I like the idea that they can use their wings to enjoy themselves;
I almost am sure that if I had been a bird I would have enjoyed to fly.
However just like Casey has said, it is a decision that only the owner can take;
I read the unclipped bird is between the first ten causes of death.
The choise (to clip or not) depends by the surroundings where the bird lives;
more and more risks there are more and more is necessary to take in consideration the possibility to clip;

Thus I leave unclipped their wing but I'm aware of the risks that they have to face;

to be honest, theres just as many dangers to a clipped bird.
