From 'top' to 'bottom': 1> Strider - yellow face type II sky blue budgie: He has been with me about 4 years. I was at work one day, and received a call that a bird had been spotted in a tree downtown. I went to investigate, and found Strider near the top of a medium sized tree. I climbed the tree, and using a bent branch and patience, got him to step onto the branch. Holding it my left hand, I slowly brought it toward me. Then with one quick move, I was able to grab him off the branch. Fortunately, I did not miss, as I would not have gotten a second chance - he was fully flighted. I held him in my hand while I moved back down toward the ground, and then transferred him to the hand of someone on the ground while I finished getting out of the tree. (Note: I am WAY too old to be climbing trees). I took him back to my office, called my husband to prepare a quarantine cage, and then let him fly around the rest of the day. I took him large box to the waiting cage my husband had prepared. Since I only had a cockatiel and a parrot, I had to stop on the way to pick up supplies. 2> Bucky (a 'normal' budgie). 3> Penske (olive green cinnamon greywing budgie) Strider needed friends, so I got Bucky and Penske from a local store. After quarantine, I introduced them, and they have all been fabulous friends since. Despite often hearing that budgies need to be kept in 'even numbers', my 3 boys get along famously, play together equally, and have never had a moment of problems. I think this is in great part to their habitat that I designed and my husband built being very large. This gives them all the opportunity to have plenty of their own personal space.
