I know that Casey knows about Winnie when I was on Avian Avenue, and she knows her story. About her injured foot, and how I took her back to the pet store, and she was "replaced" with Mousie.
I had gone to visit her, and had told the store keeper that I'd buy her back. I left him my name and number, and about a month later, I received a photo message of Winnie, saying that she was ready to come home. Yeah, I had to pay for her again, and her injury didn't really get better, but I said screw it, and just brought her home.
Mom saw her as a sick bird, telling me to be prepared of her dying anytime soon, so I did. I had it set in my mind that she wouldn't live a long time. But when Mousie scared me with a dropping color that seemed foreign to me, Casey had advised me to sprinkle some spices in their food to boost their immune system (ginger powder (which smells AMAZING), garlic powder, and cinnamon powder). A month later, Winnie is pretty active, quiet and to herself, but active.
She isn't tame, and I don't really expect her to be. I give her her space, and she just watches me from afar. She does, however, eat millet when I hold it for her, but that doesn't mean she likes or wants anything to do with my hands. She sees my hand slowly coming to her, she moves away. I can stick my hands in the cage without her freaking out though, but coming toward her is a no-no. If she accidentally wanders outside of the cage, I can scoop her up in my hands; that's the only way she won't bite me, and yes, she's a blood drawer... She's gotten me good twice...
She doesn't really like Mousie that much. She's let him preen her, but she gets annoyed of him easily.
We have also classified her as "handicapped" because of her bad foot. She can climb up into her perches, but it takes her a little longer than birds who have good feet. With advice, I went ahead and bought her from rope perches, which she LOVES. Mousie likes them too. I just tried making her environment more comfortable. I even have a piece of fleece on the bottom of the cage. She uses it, but not often. Maybe the coolness of the floor helps her foot. Not sure.
But that's Winnie. She's a white face pearl female, probably almost 2 years old, so I was told? But not entirely sure. She's quiet, and minds her business. But I love her!
