So, as bird owners, we like to make sure our birds have lots of toys. However, not everyone has a large budget for toys. Many bird owners like to make their own toys to help keep within a budget. But, a common question always pops up; What is safe to make toys out of?
Well, here is a list of some safe household or easy to afford things:
Untreated cotton, jute, or sisal twine Empty toilet paper rolls (without glue!) Unused egg cartons Unused popsicle sticks (can be bought in the craft section) Unused paper sticks (often bought at baking stores or craft stores; used for suckers and lollipops) New shoelaces Plastic Dice Plastic Ponybeads (make sure they are size appropriate for your bird) Clean pen caps New Drinking Straws New Paper cups (unwaxed. Dixie cups are great!) Cupcake papers Bamboo skewers (cut the point off of them!) Wiffle balls Paper shreds Plastic buttons (make sure size appropriate!) Vegetable tanned leather (make sure untreated) Vine wreaths (make sure untreated!!!) Clean plastic bottle caps Ping Pong Balls Clean cat jingle balls Baked coconut shells Untreated natural raffia Timothy Hay Playing cards Plain white paper Black and white newspaper Dry pasta noodles Rubber Duckies
If other members have items that they have used please feel free to add on to this list!
;D

- 'practice' or wiffle (?) golf balls like... -clean cardboard - hay (check for mold first!) store bought is safest - clean paper bags - plastic chain (i get it from Lowe's) - new printer paper for the people that like making origami toys! - little mirrors from the craft store -polar fleece - mini clothes pins for attaching toys to the cage (for birds who wont touch the metal part, or take it apart) and you know those plastic hooks that socks and tights come on? well break part of the long part off and you got yourself a hanger (seen on the hay wheel) ;D
