I hope that the pics can explain it better than thousand words,since the English is not my first language. insert the front toes inside the hole of the ring; grab the front toes and softly pull in the same time the front toes and ring,turn the ring during the traslation the operation is ended only when the two rear toes will entirely cross the hole of the ring.

Excellent thread, marc! the pictures really help, mostly in books you see illustrations, i like the photo guide better.... the lovebird is cuter than a drawing ;D
just a question, how old do you band them at? this way everyone can band at the proper age to avoid injury if theyre too big or the band falling off if they are too small

the inputs that are necessary to consider the right band date are: 1- the age of the bird 2- the diameter of the ring I use rings that have diameter equal to 4,5 mm which means I can insert the ring no later than 15 day; however for the ringeyes lovebirds you can use also the diameter equal to 4 mm, which means that it's necessary to anticipate the banding date from 15 to 12 days.
As far as the possibility to find this rings, eg. In Italy, there is the possibility to register at the bird societies, just as FOI; Thus you can get these rings through these societies;

yeah even in Canada we can only get leg bands if we join a membership, but it doesnt cost much to join really and the bands arent too expensive.
maybe look for bird societies in your country, injood? i dont know if you can find one, but its worth looking into

I forgot to add that for the Roseicollis( peachfaces) the right diameters vary from 4,5 mm to 5 mm; As for the eyerings (liliane,personatus,fischeri and nigrigenis) the diameters vary from 4mm to 4,5mm. This gap is due to the different size of the Roseicollis than the eyerings
