Hi everyone; I need your help; my italian friend has a trouble with his lovebird; Unfortunately the rear toe has been bit by another bird (I believe another lovie); The toe seems to be become swollen and yellow; I would not be concerned because usually the bite wounds heal often without problem; However in this case, my friend said to me that this wound has been done about 2 weeks ago and it doesn't seem to improve; Every tip or advice will be appreciated. I have posted a picture of the injury below Thanks in advance.

it is infected, he will need antibiotics. if not he may lose that toe. keep it clean and until he can get him some antibiotics, put cayenne pepper powder on it and aloe vera. use the aloe juice to mix the cayenne powder in and make a paste. aloe contains some natural antiseptic, and cayenne is a pain reliever and also has mild antiseptic properties. both will help his toe marc, may i have permission to keep this photo and use it to help others, credit given to the person who took the photo

if it starts feeling cold and turning black, he is losing the toe and it will fall off. I'm crossing my fingers that it will not fall off; This bird was born from a my nigrigenis pair, thus I'm still bonded to him.. Can the infection involve the whole leg or in the worst case the whole body ? can this infection provoke his death or in the worst case he will lose the foot?

birds have a reaction where since they already have poor circulation in their feet, that if it starts getting infected the part of the foot will turn black and fall off to prevent infection in the rest of the body, so there's higher chance of it falling off than there is to the whole body getting infected. if it starts turning black, dont worry, it will fall off on its own.
