long story short… very short…. my friend got budgies and they have gotten minimal care for 2 years. i have seen some bad conditions and deaths. but that has all changed because i own the 2 remaining birds!!! i never thought this day would actually come, but it did. they will now get daily care, be cleaned, get toys, and eventually be tamed (they are terrified of people). they will also be getting a petco white flight cage with a big door because i hate the cage they are in now.
just some before and afters…
this is the average "cleanliness" of their cage. i have seen it worse before
this is a toy they had in there. though they pooped on it, it was never moved. it now lives in the trash can
if it weren't for me making and giving toys to them, this would be one of the 3 that they would only have. they now have 8 toys in their cage that i made!
and the base is very dirty also. the edges are really gross also
and the inside of the water cup has been stained due to the tap water (and having lots of poop in it). i have been slowly scraping the green stuff off with my nail. when i look for a new cage, i am going to look for new seed cups.
on the bright side…. they have me now! 8 spoiled parakeets? challenge accepted!
they are being quarantined
i will be trying to switch them to pellet after they settle in. and in the new cage they will get better perches than dowels for their feet.
now they are clean and have 5 new toys i made. there were some others i made for them in there too
it is a sigh of relieve to let my eyes see this
they are both the typical colors. this is bell… who i plan to rename.
and leo, a wild type looking keet. this will get confusing with the similar names of leo and leon!
they are 2 pretty scared little fids
