so i did another training session with the fids. i havent done one in a week, which is what i have been doing lately so i dont over work/ scare lenny with intense training  . but anyways... todays session was a HUGE success! i took one of my "half" perches (pic below) right outside of the cage door and i, as usual, used the other to make the fids get on. i got lenny to sit on the perch on the outside, only once, but i am so proud of him! and butch...  ... he usually just puts on foot in the perch but today he put both feet on the perch!!!!! they were great! or course after a while lenny was not as excited to get on the perch and kept jumping off, but there is always next time. afterwards i cleaned them and gave them more millet and refilled their home made chew toy with oat sprays. cant wait to see how far we will get next time! ;D half perches like i have (i recommend these!!)  |

that is great news !!! i am glad to hear you are making good progress!! half perches work best for taming thats for sure, the long ones make it difficult to maneuver lol at this rate you will have two tame birds it helps that lenny can see butch's progress so he will want to follow his buddy |

and i hope if butch sees lenny going out of the cage then he will at least stay on the perch because now will will not stay on it if it move the perch. but i have all the time in the world to work with him |

it takes time but its wayyy more worth it. i find there is better trust earned when you go at their pace. not rushing anything. theres no time limit for bonding with your pets |

very true! i think out of all the animals you can have one of the strongest bonds with a bird.

ive got the same bond with both cats and birds. theyve been the strongest.... but my cats are crazy human cats  |

haha. my cat is more of an independent cat so he isnt the cuddly kind. but he does love being scratched and races me to a certain spot. i dont think i would like it as much if he was a lap cat because he is like 20 pounds, not fat, but just big! haha your lap would never be cold! |

mine arent lap cats so much. jess likes to relax and sit next to me and watch tv and enjoy a back scratch and she licks me to no end. she loves to groom others. shes getting old so shes more relaxed.
daystar is my cuddlebug, she comes to bed with me each night and snuggles with me and demands belly rubs. then in the morning she wakes me up by licking my face lol
destiny is all devins cat, but she comes to me for belly rubs from time to time too.
gylfie is my velcro cat. she follows me everywhere and guards me from the other cats lol shes horribly clingy

they sound like great cats, with the personalities i would look for! my neighbors new cat is kind of friends with mine so he visits quite often. he loves attention and playing so when he comes to my house i pet him and play with him a lot. so i do have a 'people' cat in my life. my friends cat ( 17 year old siamese) love attention and LOVES to sleep on you. even if she is just sitting on you and you try to move her she comes right back. which is not always good for me because i am slightly allergic. but they just make me sneeze sometimes and if i pet them and touch my eyes, they get itchy, but that is always sometimes. nothing i cant live with and i could never get rid of my cat because of it

kind of like our chinchillas for me, their hair irritates my eyes really bad, so i take eyedrops frequently.
daystar and gylfie are super shy, daystar being the most shy. and they only like me and me alone lol
destiny is the true people cat. jessie just has her few people and she tolerates the rest lol
