so i have never had ant keet with bumble foot so i dint know that much about it but.... i took Lenny out today to see butch and i noticed that on the bottom of one of his back toes it was a little purplish and swollen. it is really not that bad, but i was looking at it more. he is NOT favoring the other foot at all (if anything he is still sitting on the bumble foot like ha always does) and he is still normal. its not like super swollen or anything, he does have some a little skin peeling, which is normal for a tiny bit. i have taken some pics to get your opinion. can someone tell me more about bumble foot (or what ever it is) bubmle side the good foot i think one of the things i read was it is better to have wider perched to 'cure' mild bumble foot so i tried out a tree T perch (his first time on it and i was proud :proud:! and i have taken my little tree and some how fit that in his cage for some different perch sizes. i am still trying to situate the food and water, but it is in there. he so far likes sitting up there, but i will see what happens, because he does like sitting on the lower perches, which will now be the thick T perch.

it looks like it possibly could be bumblefoot, or possibly he has injured his foot. i would get natural perches for both of their cages and rope perches. rope perches are softer for foot problems. do you have an aloe plant? rubbing some aloe on his feet will help soothe them. www.avianweb.com/bumblefoot.htmlthe link also has information on different causes and some treatments. but i would definitely get some other kinds of perches

i think i can get aloe, but i have no clue how i would put it on, and i dont want him eating it. i am thinking about getting a shorter rope perch (i have about a 14" one) and i want to find thin safe cotton to wrap some branches, not to mention trimming the big tree in is cat because he likes sitting on that little slanted part and it is hard to get up and down from there. i heard that new cotton horse lead ropes are good perches too?

as long as the cotton isnt treated with anything, it is safe and aloe straight from the plant is perfectly safe (if not nutritious for him) if he eats it dont get the aloe gel for sunburns because it has other chemicals in it. PURE aloe from health stores (make sure its just pure gel, nothing else added) is safe, but not the aloe gel for sunburns. getting the plant is much much safer--and easier. we always have one in our home rope perches are definitely a good idea

i think my nana has an aloe plant so maybe i will try that. i can alway put some on my finger and have him give me a high five because that is the sore foot. i am thinking about making some changes to the tree. i want to trim it and attach a thin branch and wrap cotton rope around it to make it a sturdy softer and longer high branch. any idea of where i could get 3/16 cotton rope with free shipping??

i will look into that. do you think for now covering it with thin jute would do any thing?

jute can double as a rope perch if you wrap it around a few times

i had the genius idea to wrap perches with strips of polar fleece instead lenny was pretty scared the first time when it was on the perch on butchs cage. he looked at it, i move him closer and then he got scared and find of opened his wings (as if to flail his arms) and then to flew off the second try he did get on. but her wont go on it in the cage. i put one in butchs cage too and he wont go on it. he wants to but he touches it then quickly hops on and hops/flies to the other perch i found a nice branch perch at petsmart for his cage (i didnt buy it yet) but i have no clue how i am going to put it in with him in there

well for new "scary" things, you want to put the perches on the outside where he can see them, and slowly move them closer to the cage until you can put it in. it'll take awhile, but it works for most birds. you can wrap half the plastic perches, so they get used to it. just part, so its part fleece, part plastic
